The Maui Paradise Marathon & Aloha Half Malf Marathon are unique events where you can either use one of the courses we have posted on the website, modify it to fit your needs (such as starting/finishing at your hotel along the course), or creating your own using your GPS to cover the distance. There is no official date or time or location to do one of the events. You can do this any day, anytime, anywhere. The four dates shown are when we have a social gathering at 4 pm (currently at Moose’s in Kihei) where you can get your shirt and medal. If you can’t make the gathering, they will be mailed to you (outside US there is an extra fee.)
Next Club Social:
Sunday, Dec. 1, 2013
A club party is held on these dates where shirts and medals will be given out at 4:00p.m.
Finisher's medal, shirt and ribbon anytime you complete either the full or half marathon distances which traverse some of the most beautiful vistas on one of the most popular and spectacular Hawaiian islands. You don't have to schedule your holidays around a specific event date. You take your vacation when it suits you and run a marathon or half marathon in paradise.
To participate in the MPM, you have to join the Maui Road Runners. Cost to join is only US$65 for a year from the date you join.
The format of the MPM is a 365 day event where club members can run either the full or half marathon at any time during the year. Club members can either run on their own, as couples, or in smaller groups. There will be selected dates each quarter where members can meet later in the day for a club pau hana time no host event.
Running the Marathon or Half Marathon distances on Maui is Not For Novices. With the hills and heat the runs are for experienced runners plus you have to carry your own fluids, gels, etc. There will be no aid stations. See the Courses tab for a description of some courses.
You can start whenever you want on any day you want though we advise an early morning start probably not later than 0600 to avoid the increase in heat as the sun comes up. You have to run by the rules of the road. This means along the side of the road, sidewalks, etc. There is no traffic control, you cannot run in the middle of the road, if you come to a red light you need to stop (you do not have the right of way.) Consider it the same rules you use when doing your workouts and have to use the same precautions.
At the club party shirts and medals will be handed out. Start time for the parties will be at 4:00 pm. On this Sunday, the social will be from 4:00-6:00 pm at Moose’s, 2511 S Kihei Road above Fred’s. If you participate at a time when you are not able to attend one of the parties, your finisher's shirt and medal will be mailed to you. There will be a small extra charge for other than US mailings.
Once you have joined the club, you should advise us when you plan to participate in one of the events and the approximate date.
Social Media - Have Your Say
We will be starting a Facebook page and/or blog so club members can join others in coordinating dates they might want to run one of the courses. There is no official start time nor will anyone be there to record finishing times.
