In other words you can run a marathon (2 courses) or half marathon and receive an official finishers shirt and medal at anytime of the year. You don't have to schedule your holidays around a specific event date. You take your vacation when it suits you and run a marathon or half marathon in paradise.

To participate in the MPM, you have to join the Maui Road Runners. Cost to join is only US$55 for a year from the date you join. By joining, besides receiving periodic newsletters and the ability to participate in club activities, a member can run in one of the club's events during the year of membership for no fee and be entitled to a Finisher's Shirt and Medal. You can join the MRR post running the event if desired, and still receive the Finisher's Shirt and Medal.
The format of the MPM is a 365 day event where club members can run either the full or half marathon at any time during the year. Club members can either run on their own, as couples, or in smaller groups. There will be selected dates each quarter where members can meet later in the day for a club pau hana time no host event. These will also serve as focal points if members want to meet up with each other to run one of the courses. For the remainder of 2011 and to start 2012 these dates are all on Sundays for December 4, 2011 and January 15 and May 6, 2012.
Accommodation Assistance
As assistance for our participants who need a place to stay while on island, the MPM is working with properties for discounted room rates. They will be located in South Maui and will be very close to or right on the courses. The properties will vary on rates for the time of the year you want to stay and you can book directly with the properties via our link. Please check for updates as we add new properties. Mahalo.
Courses
The Marathon and Half Marathon Courses Are Not For Novices. With the hills and heat the runs are for experienced runners plus you have to carry your own fluids, gels, etc. There will be no aid stations. The website will show where there are toilets along the course if you need them. See the Courses tab for a description of the two Marathon courses and the Half Marathon course.
You can start whenever you want on any day you want though we advise an early morning start probably not later than 0600 to avoid the increase in heat as the sun comes up. Runners are limited to starting in groups of no more than 10-12 at a time and have to run by the rules of the road. This means along the side of the road, sidewalks, etc. There is no traffic control, you cannot run in the middle of the road, if you come to a red light you need to stop (you do not have the right of way.) Consider it the same rules you use when doing your workouts and have to use the same precautions.
Club Party - Post Run
At the club party on those dates, shirts and medals will be handed out. Start time for the parties will be at 4 pm. If you participate at a time when you are not able to attend one of the parties, your finisher's shirt and medal will be mailed to you. There will be a small extra charge for other than US mailings.
Once you have joined the club, you should advise us if you plan to participate in one of the events and the approximate date. We will ask for your shirt size at that time. In registering to join the club you can advise us of the date you plan to participate and shirt size.
Event Shirts
Event shirts are available for $15 incl. postage to club members or $25 incl. postage to nonmembers.
Social Media - Have Your Say
We will be starting a Facebook page and/or blog so club members can join others in coordinating dates they might want to run one of the courses. If by chance more than the 10-12 want to run on a particular date, we will coordinate a staggered type start so there is no congestion. Please remember that runners are on their own in getting started and in reporting their times. There is no official start time nor will anyone be there to record finishing times.
The sooner you join, the better so we can order the right size shirts for everyone who wants to run. We cannot guarantee we will have the right size shirts for those who join later or after they have run one of the courses. Typical first come first served. However, those who join early but don't plan to run until later, we will set aside your shirt size if one is still available when you tell us when you plan to run.
